IBM Cognos 8 Business Intelligence (BI) has now released version 8.3, which contains many new features to help users deliver more targeted information to more user communities. Version 8.3 helps business and financial analysts work effectively and provides everyday users with more information in less time. Express authoring provides a streamlined graphical user interface (GUI) for crosstab creation and statement-style reports. Users can work with live data and see formatting changes reflected on the fly.

Scorecard portlets and metric-intelligent diagrams provide more information in fewer clicks. The solution delivers a range of BI capabilities on a single, service-oriented architecture (SOA), and allows the user to author, share, and use reports that draw on data across all enterprise sources to help make better business decisions. Reporting functions give the user access to a list of self-serve report types, are adaptable to any data source, and operate from a single metadata layer for a variety of benefits including multilingual reporting. The solution offers tabbed portlet pages to navigate across multistyle, multipage reports; briefing books to help maximize professional report presentation with customized page orientation, horizontal pagination, multiple tables of content, and personalized "no data" scenarios.

Users can schedule and burst multipage reports to help ensure stakeholders receive relevant, consistent, and timely information. Reports can be saved and stored to any local area network (LAN) location, which can save time, increase convenience, and facilitate access to reports and information. Global filters can be used to update the content across multiple objects in a portal page. The solution's analysis functionality gets to the "why" behind an event or action to help improve business performance. It allows users to analyze what's driving their businesses, with data organized in logical categories, such as fiscal periods, sales regions, and product groups.
