Founded in 1983 as the Microsiga Software Company, TOTVS develops enterprise resource planning (ERP) software for the South American and Latin American markets, where the company has a 50.1 percent share of the small business ERP market and a 22 percent share of the midsized business ERP market.

Protheus is enterprise resource planning and customer relationship management
software based on TOTVS TEC architecture. It is independent of operational systems,
databases, and interfaces. Developed to conquer a market eager to implement
results driven management and operation processes, Microsiga Protheus is flexible, easy
to use, and customizable. Supported by TOTVS, Microsiga
Protheus has offices and clients in others countries. It is the flexible and
international software of TOTVS and the ERP solution is based entirely on
Microsoft technology.
