Sockeye’s Collaborative Application Framework (CAF) is an XML-based, J2EE-compliant, service-oriented architecture that provides a platform for key supply chain functions such as multi-tier supply chain modeling, what-if analysis, key performance indicators and reports, distribution of real-time information, and exception management.

CAF is designed to support the configuration and deployment of application templates. Sockeye's application templates represent the supply chain functionality required to execute generic collaborative business processes, and are configured with customer-driven business processes. The templates can be configured by business users and partners, and can be deployed using CAF. CAF consists of a loosely coupled set of frameworks and services deployed on multiple servers, and is accessible to users and systems over the Internet. It supports synchronous and asynchronous message-based communications for many-to-many interactions across multiple systems, time zones, and semantic layers.
